Vacancy – Head of Strategy

We are looking for someone to fill a volunteer vacancy,
as Head of Strategy

Job Description

About Throw a Starfish

Throw A Starfish is a small charity working to use people’s skills to serve needs in the developing world.

Our vision is to help everyday people use the skills they have for most impact in the world – whether that’s a nurse specialist offering training, an engineer designing a recycling facility or an IT professional developing a new system for data collection and recording

The charity was founded in 2019 and is led by a Mission Director who has years of experience in world mission, and responding to different needs around the world.  From this he saw that most short term volunteering opportunities involved joining a team, which undertook a relatively simple task, in which everyone could do something regardless of skills.  Our vision focuses instead on using the gifts and availability of individuals, rather than recruiting teams for projects! We work with trusted partners, where we have an ongoing relationship; this enables us to place individuals in overseas projects at a time convenient to them, hence increasing the number of potential starfish throwers.  Although initially we were looking to send volunteers overseas, the Covid-19 pandemic has meant we have started to look at possibilities for remote volunteering.   For more information, visit www.ThrowAStarfish.org.

The charity has a great board of trustees and has established a solid support base to support this early vision and development work.

 What difference will you make?

We have big ideas about how we can change the nature of overseas mission volunteering work and we are looking for somebody to help continue to move our vision into action.  We believe that two or more people working together is more productive than one on their own, so we are looking for a key member of the team to shape our future development.
